Woodditton is an ancient village, first mentioned in an instrument of King Canute and in Domesday Book. The present church has been a feature of the village for over 500 years. Parts of the north aisle are 14th century. The church was vandalised by Cromwell's men but thankfully not razed. Notable features include a beautiful brass and a unique "dripping pan" gravestone. The bells were restored in 1984, having been silent for 28 years. They are now rung for practice on Tuesday evenings and for weddings and services by a very enthusiastic team. A programme of internal re-ordering of the porch and tower areas to make space for children's activities, a kitchen and a toilet has recently been completed.

A sociable and outward looking church, St Mary's hosts picnics and barbeques in the summer and holds fundraising events for Open Door, a local charity, and Tearfund. The church is locked during the week but visitors are welcome to borrow a key from a churchwarden.
