Update on Woodditton Church Restoration work
If you have recently been anywhere near Woodditton church you will have seen that the tower is wreathed in scaffolding. This will be there until the end of June whilst extensive repair work is done to the masonry rendering and flintwork. The work is being done by Lodge and Sons (Builders) Ltd who have extensive experience of restoring historic buildings alongside their perhaps better-known roofing business. The work is being supervised by our church architect Stephanie Norris.
The work is funded by the PCC together with generous grants from the Cambridge Historic Churches Trust and the Garfield Weston foundation. Generous donations have also been received from members of the church and the local community, for all of which we are immensely grateful. A couple of grant applications are still pending, but we are confident of having sufficient funding to complete the work on time and on budget.
I have enclosed photographs (see below) from today’s site inspection at which I was able to see close-up the excellent progress being made and the beautiful new stonework. Unfortunately we have had to suspend bell-ringing activities while the stone repairs are being undertaken but it shouldn’t be too long before they can be rung again.
