Quiet Day - March 3rd 2018

I wish you all a very happy and blessed New Year. In doing so I am mindful that it will be a year when we must prepare for change. Philip, our Priest-in-Charge will be retiring later this year (his last service will be Advent Sunday 2018).

We must therefore prepare for a different future – one in which we will start an interregnum (a period with no priest of our own). If and when we do find a replacement it will be at best with a half-time priest. Those of you that are on Parochial Church Councils (PCCs) will already know that on January 8th we shall be meeting with our Archdeacon, Very Rev Alex Hughes to consider the possibility of becoming a United Benefice.

We need to prepare carefully for a future which holds uncertainty, change and opportunity in equal measure, and it is appropriate that we face this prayerfully. With this in mind we are going to have a quiet day on Saturday 3rd March at the Old Stable House Centre, Fordham Road, Newmarket CB8 7AF between 10am and 3pm. This will be open to anyone in the partnership who would like the opportunity to meet for prayer and reflection on our future. It is most definitely not restricted to PCC members. It will be an opportunity to meet away from our churches, and will be quite different from the necessarily business-orientated PCC meetings. It will be a time to focus on God, to empty ourselves of pre-conceptions and to try to listen to the promptings of the Holy Spirit as we start to discern our future.

There will be short times of prayer and worship, with quiet and some guided reflection between. A programme is being developed. The Old Stable House Centre is a warm, conveniently located venue (between St Louis Convent and the RC school on Fordham Road). There is adequate parking, and the centre can accommodate 24 people comfortably. There is a large comfortable sitting room, two smaller meeting rooms, a kitchen, dining room and four downstairs lavatories.

There will be no charge for the day, so that no one need feel excluded by cost. A bring and share lunch seems the best option. Tea and Coffee, soft drinks will be provided.

As places are limited please book your place with me as soon as possible (preferably by e-mail if possible). In the event of over 24 people wishing to attend, a wait list will be started.

PLEASE PUT SATURDAY MARCH 3rd in your diary if you are interested and contact me,
